Congerville, Eureka, Goodfield Community Youth and Recreation Association

T-Ball League Rules

Boys & Girls Ages 5 & 6

 Goals:

  1. Teach fundamental skills such as hitting, throwing, fielding, and running.
  2. Ensure the kids have fun.

 Game Length

There will be a 50 minute time limit on all T-Ball games.  No inning shall begin after the 45 minute mark.

 Offense

  1. Each player will bat each inning regardless of the number of outs.  Three outs do not constitute an inning.
  2. No score will be kept.
  3. The batting orders to be used are to be changed for each game. This will insure that the same person will not always bat first or bat last, and that their number in the batting order will be varied.
  4. There will be no bunting, lead offs, stealing, sliding, pinch hitting or infield fly rules.
  5. A coach from the batting team shall assist each batter at the plate. The coach shall instruct the hitters in stance and proper swing to hit the baseball.
  6. For the first 9 games of the season, all players shall hit off the tee to allow players to gain confidence, avoid discouragement, and prevent numerous swings and misses (and long innings).
  7. For games 10 -12 the coaches will pitch a maximum of 5 pitches and then use a tee regardless of foul tips.
  8. After the coach adjusts and places the ball on the tee, the player cannot hit the ball until that coach yells “play ball”.
  9. Once the ball is hit into fair territory the batter will run to first base.
  10. If a player makes an out, he or she will go back to the dugout.
  11. The ball must travel past the semi-circle foul line for it to be a fair ball.  If it does not then it will be returned to the tee for another attempt.
  12. No balls or strikes will be called and the game can be stopped at anytime for instructional purposes.
  13. When the ball is hit into the outfield, the batter may run the bases until the ball is returned to the infield. The runner must stop at the base he/she is at. If he/she is advancing to the next base already, he/she may continue to the next base.
  14. Runners may ONLY take one base on balls which stay in the infield.

 Defense

  1. All players will play defense.
  2. The infield will have 1 player per infield positions – pitcher, third base, second base, first base.
  3. The remaining players will be positioned to the outfield grass.
  4. All positions will be switched each inning.
  5. All players must wear gloves. The catcher may wear a fielder’s glove.
  6. Coaches and parents may help defense in the field.
  7. Runners may not advance on an overthrow.
  8. No hidden ball tricks or fake tags.

 Sportsmanship

At the conclusion of the game, all players will line up along the first and third base lines, then proceed to shake hands.

 Equipment and Field

  1. All batters and base runners must wear protective headgear. Only the next batter will be allowed out of the dugout and he/she must also be wearing protective headgear.
  2. It is recommended boys wear a protective cup.
  3. Base distance shall be 45 feet.
  4. A foul line semi-circle will be painted in front of home plate from the first base line to the third base line approximately 3 feet from home plate.
